1. Decorate T-shirt- While outside, students will receive
a t-shirt to decorate with sponge painted insects. The insects
will be in the shapes of insects that have been covered throughout
the week. We will leave the t-shirts outside to dry while we are
going on the scavenger hunt.
2. Scavenger Hunt- Students will use their milk cartons
as collecting containers for the scavenger hunt. They will be
given a card with specific items that they need to locate while
outside. After a given time, the students will re-group and discuss
what they have found. At this time, the teachers will ask questions
that review the points of the week.
3. Flip Book- What would a butterfly look like with a grasshopper's
head? Make a mix and match book to find out. Students need several
sheets of construction paper, crayons, ruler, stapler, and scissors.
The two shorter ends of the paper will be the top and bottom.
Divide the paper into thirds. Draw a different insect on each
piece of paper. Use the top third for the head. The middle one
for the thorax and the last one for the abdomen. Staple the pieces
of paper together facing the same direction. Cut along each pencil
line. Now mix and match your insect. (see attached instructions)
4. Insect Card Game- This game will be played like Memory.
The students will be given clues on one card and a picture and
a name on the other card. They will flip the cards over until
they find the matching pairs. We will repeat this game with the
whole class gathered around.
5. Insect Bingo- The students will receive a game card
with various pictures of insects. The teacher will call out clues
of the different insects and the students will mark their cards
with manipulative ants.
6. Insect Puzzle- Students will be given a blank puzzle
to decorate with their choice of an insect. Tracing patterns will
be provided.
7. Graduation Preparation- Parents will be coming into
class to visit. The student's bags of goodies from the week will
be put together for them to take home. Students will also help
to prepare refreshments for their parents. An idea of an item
would be ants on a log made from celery, peanut butter, and raisins.
8. Slide Show and Certificate Presentation- Let the young entomologists shine after their week of fun and hard work.
